Flooring

Flooring material used in Clear Span Shelters is organic material, commonly known as "deep litter". Straw, sawdust, rice hulls, or whatever is locally available can be used as deep litter.

Regularity of cleaning will depend on litter type, thickness, and seasonal conditions. Flooring can be composted, or managed in an all-in-all-out fashion.

Underneath the organic bedding is a hard, no-permeable layer of compacted material which forms the floor base. This is not necessarily concrete, but needs to be hard enough to facilitate scraping clean when the shed is to be replenished with litter material. The floor base is important in producing a clean, easily managed shelter.
